Covers that Captivate

Covers that Captivate

Welcome friends! This week I am highlighting the authors here on the Diamond Mine. This group has some great fiction. I especially wanted to highlight a few of their great covers! There is a giveaway, my newest eBook, Spun is the item up for bid for one lucky reader! Please leave a comment or fill out our contact form to enter.

Also, please read to the end. We are saying goodbye to a couple of dear authors for 2025, one of which, sadly enough, we are saying our final goodbye.

**********

The first cover I want to highlight is Yellow Roses by Suzie Waltner. I simply love all the Love in Color covers. Take a look:

Yellow Roses (Love in Color)

Mia Mason has always strived to meet others’ expectations. Her adoptive family, her fans, even her friends in the band. She works hard at pleasing everyone because she’s never felt like she truly belongs. After connecting with a cousin through a DNA website, she plans a covert road trip, hoping to find her biological mother and the answers she desires.

During a music awards ceremony, Levi Sinclair receives two messages that ruin his night. One is a breakup text from his girlfriend of six weeks. The other is from the father who abandoned his family seventeen years ago and wants to reconnect. Then Levi discovers Mia’s secret mission and insists on going along to keep her safe.

As the two friends pass the miles and see the sights, Levi’s true feelings for Mia rise to the surface. And her journey to the past might open the door to their future. Family issues and a shared career are just two of the hurdles they’ll have to jump if they want a shot at love. Could the end of the road lead these friends to a new beginning?

 Bio:

Suzie Waltner is a lover of fiction and is, first and foremost, a reader. When she’s not at work, reading or writing, you can find her cheering on her hockey team or dancing an hour away in Zumba class. Until her second year of college, her life plan was to become a veterinarian. A fainting spell while watching a surgery performed on a sheep changed that plan. Now she works in the corporate world during the day while creating stories in her free time. Suzie resides in a suburb of Nashville, TN and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers as well as Faith, Hope, and Love Christian Writers.

Next up is Carrie Walker's book Right Before Their Eyes. Such a gorgeous cover and part of a series!

Right Before Their Eyes

Clare Martin thought nothing of agreeing to live with her dementia-ridden grandmother when her parents left on mission. Balancing that with her job as a social worker and the expectations of her career-driven boyfriend proved doable—until Grandma started a house fire.

Mason Hughes has loved Clare for years, but the time was never right to tell her and now she’s dating someone else, fixing Mason firmly in the friend zone. He’s working to be a pediatric neurologist, a dream inspired by a special boy with a terminal brain condition, and must choose a medical school. Finances are so tight he’s forced to consider a program across the country, a troubling fact he’s kept secret.

Lucia Roberts, a seventeen-year-old on Clare’s caseload, loses her foster home and is placed in an unwelcoming group home. At every turn she’s met with rejection and becomes desperate for any proof she has value—enough to make choices that could affect the rest of her life.

When Grandma Dottie and Lucia's paths take a dangerous turn, Clare frantically tries to save them. As their lives knit together, will they find the love that’s right before their eyes?

Bio:

Carrie Walker lives in Michigan with her husband and seven children. From her ten years serving as a high school youth minister, adventures around the globe, and raising a family, many stories have been knit within her heart.

As an avid reader she pens what she loves to read, contemporary stories that bring hope to a hurting world. Weaving romance among story lines of characters in struggle, she aims to show God working in all situations. When she’s not playing board games with her husband, shuttling kids in the Walker bus or wishing for snow, Carrie can be found at the keyboard bringing those stories to life.

Carrie’s writing has been recognized in many contests. Her debut novel, Emma’s Hero, placed in the ACFW Crown Award, Monroe Walton Center for the Arts Award, and won the 2020 ACFW First Impressions Contest.

Our newest member, Christina Sinisi has some awesome covers, too. Here's Another Outer Banks Christmas. I admit my love for the series Outer Banks drew me to this one! And besides, who doesn't like to read a Christmas novel all 12 months of the year?!

Another Outer Banks Christmas

As the daughter of missionaries, Kerrie Alexander has lived on Hatteras—an island in the Outer Banks—longer than any other place she’s been. When her parents inform her the family is slotted to go overseas again, she balks. Her life on the island—her job, her friends, even the handsome hero in her Sunday School class—makes her want to put down roots. But to do so, she’ll need to find a place to live, face being on her own separated from any close family—something she’s never done before.

Firefighter and EMT Wade Hampton can face pretty much any emergency, except his matchmaking grandpa threatening him with disinheritance if Wade doesn’t get married in just three months. Not that Wade objects to the idea of marriage, but how does a guy who has no problem running into burning buildings find the courage to ask a girl like Kerrie out for a date? She’s a role model for everything good, and he comes from a rough and broken home. Not to mention, Christmas is right around the corner!

Bio:

A member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Christina Sinisi writes stories about families, both the broken and blessed. Her works include a semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest and the American Title IV Contest where she appeared in the top ten in the Romantic Times magazine. Her published books include Christmas Confusion, Sweet Summer, and Christmas on Ocracoke. By day, she is a psychology professor and lives in the Low Country of South Carolina with her husband, two children and her crazy kitten Zeta Belle.

Now for V. Joy Palmer, known as Joy and her book Love, Lace and Minor Alterations. There is just something about that pink/purple that I absolutely love!

Love, Lace, and Minor Alterations

Isabel “Izze” Vez, bridal consultant extraordinaire, has been helping brides find The Dress for years. She loves nothing more than helping make wedding dreams come true…but sometimes the happy endings grate on her. How many times can a girl discover someone else’s gown without dreaming of the day it’ll be her turn to wear one?

When James Miles Clayton walks into her life, he represents everything Izze can’t handle: change. He’s determined to bring the Ever After Bridal Boutique into the black…and to prove to Izze that she should give him a chance.

But if there’s anything Izze handles worse than change, it’s trust. She may have a few issues—fine, she knows she does. But will they keep getting in the way of any chance of her own Happily Ever After? She wants to trust God to give her those dreams of love and lace, but that’s going to require some…minor alterations.

Bio:

V. Joy Palmer loves to write romantic and comedic stories that reveal God’s deep love for us. Her books are closed door romcoms that are full of romantic tension, snark, and written from a Christian worldview. She’s a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and an avid reader. In her spare time, Joy loves to sing (especially Disney songs), drink large quantities of coffee, and create aesthetic content for Bookstagram. When Joy isn’t fighting with fictional people, she’s hanging out with her husband and their adorable children. Connect with Joy on her website!

Then Regina Rudd Merrick has the next captivating cover of Carolina Dream. Good golly, Miss Molly there is very little I don't like about this cover. Victorian southern mansion, check, beachline, double check.

Carolina Dream

A Southern Breeze Series – Book One

Sarah Crawford wants more from life than to attend the wedding of her ex-fiancée. An unexpected inheritance in South Carolina comes at the perfect time, just as Sarah is willing to use any excuse to get out of town. When she meets potential business partner Jared Benton and discovers that a house is part of the inheritance, she is sure that God has been preparing her for this time through a recurring dream.

But will a dream about an antebellum mansion, many rooms to be explored, and a man with dark brown eyes give her the confidence to take a leap of faith, leaving friends, family, and her job behind?

Bio:

Regina Rudd Merrick has written all her life. From the scribbling of a young child writing "I love you" notes to her mother, to the teenager who tried to write a more satisfying sequel to Gone with the Wind, she developed a distinct love of "happily ever after." That love of fiction parlayed into a career as a librarian, and she is the former director of a small public library in Marion, KY. She began attending local writing workshops and continued to hone her craft by writing several short and novel-length fan-fiction pieces published online. In fact, it was after writing Christian-themed stories based on a television show that ended too soon that she decided to pursue original fiction. With encouragement from some writing friends, she attended her first ACFW conference and met like-minded writers that were as concerned with building others up as with their own careers. Regina is now an active member of the Ken-Ten Writing Group, which has participants from Western Kentucky and Western Tennessee, and helps plan the group's yearly conference. She is an instrumentalist and vocalist in the music program of her church and has participated in many areas of ministry over the years. Married for 30+ years, Regina and her husband, Todd, have two grown daughters who share her love of music, writing, and the arts. They live in Marion, in Western Kentucky, in a county where there are, literally, more deer than people. Her hobbies include watching other people work on houses on HGTV, decorating, antiquing (otherwise known as "picking"), cooking, reading, playing music, and dreaming of the beaches of South Carolina.

Here's Gay N. Lewis's (also G.N. Lewis) charming cover for Sarah and the Angelic Magical Makeover. Who doesn't love the aqua-marine (teal, turquoise~you pick your color label, LOL) cast?

Sarah and the Angelic Magical Makeover

How can a dyslexic, low-esteemed, inexperienced angel help Valerie, an insecure, overweight woman with a poor image of herself? To complicate matters, two men present themselves as possible mates for Valerie, but only one is the real deal. Can Sarah achieve a makeover while discovering the true love for Valerie?

Bio:

Gay N. Lewis, a Texas minister's wife writes about angels and romance. She has two women's fiction books. Clue into Kindness and Mattie's Choice. Mattie's Choice is historical. Often called upon as an inspirational speaker, she uses humor with Biblical teaching.

With the exception of one year in Oklahoma, Gay N. Lewis and her pastor husband served churches in Texas. Before becoming a full time author, her livelihood embraced interior design, photography, and communication. She's written and produced videos for the retail market and for local churches. These videos include Psalms from the Mountains and The Canadian Rockies.

Prism Book Group signed her in 2012 to a three book contract for the Sarah Series. Sarah is a dyslexic angel who romantically links couples together, but she does it with a lot of whacky goof ups along the way. The Sarah Series is a bit of I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeanie, and Touched by an Angel rolled into one. Sarah provides chuckles and a bit of inspiration on her missions. The Sarah Series provides uplifting and feel good moments.

To date, Pelican Book Group, the Prism Imprint continues to sign Gay Lewis to book contracts. Books are available in eBook, print, and audio.

Gay Lewis says, "Parsonage life requires angels, and I've seen one or two. Without a sense of comedy, life is too dull."

My friend, Nancy Shew Bolton is up next to show you her hippy-flippy cover of her book entitled The Flip Side of Love. I'm a sucker for the 70s vintage look!

The Flip Side of Love

In the unsettled days of 1972, music is the steady focus of Ruth's life and the high point of each college day. But when her happiness derails in the span of a few seconds time, Ruth is left to piece together a life that becomes fraught with confusion and emotional turmoil.

Paul has worked hard to school his stormy personality into a career that satisfies his love of music and a desire to teach. Yet his own actions threaten to rob him of his vocation, his reputation, and his view of himself. Confronting his own shortcomings was not part of his plans. But when he meets Ruth, everything changes.

Amid the challenges of life in the politically and socially turbulent 1970s, both must find comfort and support through the music they love and each other.

Bio:

Nancy Shew Bolton is a widow after 44 years of marriage, a mother of five grown sons, and grandmother to a boy and girl. Ever since she learned to write, she would jot down her thoughts and impressions in little snippets of inspiration in the form of poetry, song lyrics, or short essays. About 10 years ago, she decided to try her hand at writing a full length book. She's since written 8 more works of fiction, one non-fiction, and is working on an idea for a children's book, as well as more fiction manuscripts.

Writing a full-length work is much more challenging than she thought, and she has received so much valuable assistance from other writers, especially from the ACFW critique groups. Her husband had been supportive of her long hours spent at the keyboard. Many thanks to her beloved Johnny! And now she's under contract with Pelican Book Group's Prism Imprint. What a journey!

Nancy loves to write character-driven stories about relationships of love and faith, since she is fascinated by the complexities within this emotional terrain. She thanks God and His Son for her life, her loved ones and the spark of creativity inside every person. She believes each person is a unique creation, with their own special voice and place in this amazing universe. God's handiwork amazes her every day!

**********

Lastly, let me toot my own horn, thank you for your patient indulgence. From the moment I saw this cover, I knew, KNEW it was Maggie, my main squeeze in Spun. Little side note, this story is a spin off of Rumpelstiltskin. The more you know....

No. No more fairy tales. Widow Maggie Robbins would be a fool no more. She’d married a thief believing him to be her gilded deliverer during her mother’s unexpected illness and death. Now, tucked in her cabin, Maggie and her eight-year-old son, are surrounded by the gang who killed her thieving husband. They demand her dead husband’s last heist—gold—and lots of it.  Among the evil men is Maggie’s childhood love, Hank Sutter, who’d abandoned her years ago. Time and circumstance has curdled the love she once held for him and she dare not trust him.

Hank’s only thought is of Maggie who he never stopped loving. On a mission to become a Ranger to be worthy of her, he’s infiltrated a gang of bank robbers. He’s torn between extracting information from Maggie and his desire to keep her safe. But when he discovers his bogus contact is merely measuring out revenge on Maggie and her son, Hank must recover the boy and protect Maggie at all costs. Can he and Maggie find the child before he’s gone for good? Or will Maggie forever blame him for abandoning her again when she needs him most?

Interview and Giveaway with author Susan Spess!!

Today on The Diamond Mine, we welcome author Susan Spess. We're going to find out a bit about her and her new book: Jordan Valley Miss.

Sometimes it takes the loss of everything to gain the joys God has in store...

When Pastor Eli's wife and brother ran away together, he was the one who lost- his family, his church, and his faith. All he has left are his four-year-old daughter and a little church in the world's smallest town. But he still has his speaking talent, and with it, he's sure he can build up their numbers so he can catch the attention of another mega-church. He needs to be back in the big time where he belongs.

Glory Matthews voted against hiring the new minister. He's single and handsome and more charismatic than any man has the right to be. He'll draw every man-hunting woman around. And because he's used to the big time, he won't stay long. But when Eli is with his daughter, he's down-to-earth, loving and everything she could want, and Glory's heart melts like a forgotten candle burning in the night.

If it's one thing Eli Daniels doesn't need, it's Glory Matthews. She's head-strong, pretty, faithful and doesn't seem to be fazed by his "celebrity." But Glory is also everything he could ever want, and somehow this Jordan Valley miss just might help him find his faith and mend his heart.

Wow! This sounds like a great read to me! Now let's get to the interview.
Susan, what do you like best about this story?
I enjoy the characters and the setting. They're all composites of people and places I've known in my life. Writing it was kind of like going home.

How did you get the idea for the story?
I went to a Christian college when I graduated from high school, and I might have known a guy or two who were super talented like the hero of my story.

Do you have a favorite character, and if so, why are they your favorite?
Yes, my two favorite characters are the mother and aunt of the heroine. They write children's books and have a ball doing it.

I bet you had fun writing those two characters!
Do you have the whole story planned out before you write it, or do you write it as you go?
I don't have the entire story planned out, but I usually have my turning points before I start.

That sounds like a good method.
Do your characters ever surprise you?
Absolutely. Once I wrote a scene (not in this book) about a man who punched a wall and broke his hand. Later I had him getting into the shower when he waved his casted arm at me and said, "I can't get this wet." LOL!

I love that!! What a great glimpse into the sometimes wacky world of writing characters!
Speaking of characters, are yours based on yourself or people you know?
Yes, they are. Usually, they're a little bit of several people I know... with my emotional responses.

I often wonder if the people reading our books know which of their traits we've borrowed for a character!
What's the most difficult thing about writing?
Finding time to do it. I still work full time in the family business.

That must be stress-full for you at times.
What do you enjoy most about being a writer?
Actually putting the words on paper. I've always made up stories to entertain myself, and now that I write them down, I know where I left off.

I'm glad you write them down now!
So, how much of a role does your faith play in your writing process?
My faith is part of all of my life. I just pray I'm not too preachy when I write.

Yes. I think most Christian writers worry about that!
What would you like readers to take away from your stories?
That God is a loving father who'll never leave us or forsake us.

That is a most precious and vital understanding for everyone to know. I'm so glad you weave that into your books.
What are you writing now?
I have two more books finished in this series set in Jordan Valley, Oklahoma, and now I'm working on a series set in Purdy Water, Oklahoma.
I'm just an Okie at heart.
Thank you for having me. This was so much fun!

Yes, it was, and I'm so glad to have had a chance to showcase you and your book. Thanks for the lovely interview, Susan!

Nancy Shew Bolton Interview and Giveaway!!

      Hey guess what?

Hi there! I'm doing something a little different. I'm interviewing myself!! I had three books come out last year, for a total of six published books so far, and am looking forward to at least one and possibly three releasing this year. It still amazes me. I'm really an author!
So anyway, I thought I'd take this opportunity to talk a little about my novels and to offer an e-copy of any one of my published books to whoever wins the drawing. Leave me a comment so you can be entered!
All of my books have a strong faith element as well as ardent romance. I like to turn a spotlight on the inner workings of the human mind and heart and how each unique individual responds to the challenges of life and love.

Here are the choices:
The Right Ingredients, is my first published book. It's a sweet contemporary romance that chronicles a shy young woman's journey into love and faith.

A Haven in the Woods is also a contemporary romance. It shows the growth of a relationship between two opposite people who are forced by circumstances to interact and the unexpected growth of feelings between them as they face a life-changing event whose impact rocks both of them.

A Work in Progress is another contemporary romance that zeroes in on the relationship of two restaurant cooks who think they have each other figured out but are in for a big surprise as attraction heats up their icy relationship, and puts them both through changes.

Scroll down to see my three historical novels!  Hidden Storms is a gripping story about a young woman's journey during the Dust Bowl years of the late 1930's. It was inspired by the story of The Ugly Duckling, and takes the reader on an intense journey.

Answering Sarah takes place in the 1890's and is about a young woman's family recovering from a traumatic event, and the challenges she faces as love and faith intersect in ways she never could have predicted.

Hat's Off is a charming novella set in the 1920's about a young widow and an introverted cowboy and their halting, sometimes humorous steps toward each other.

I love writing stories that really zero in on the thoughts and emotions of the characters. I find those aspects of people to be endlessly compelling. So if you like character-driven stories that explore issues of love and faith, I know you'll enjoy my books. Perhaps someday I'll try my hand at mystery, suspense or action, but for now, the inner workings of the human heart as it experiences romance and spiritual awakening is what captivates my imagination! I hope you enjoyed this peek at my books! Leave a comment and you could win one of your choosing.

Here are my social links along with my Amazon page which lists all my books along with their reviews. I've also included separate purchase links for each book. Thanks folks!

Laura V. Hilton is Back!

Today we welcome multi-published author Laura Hilton! Please leave a comment after the interview to be entered in the giveaway drawing! The winner gets their choice of any of Laura’s books.
Nancy: Laura, welcome back to the Diamond Mine! It’s good to have this opportunity to catch up with you. You’ve written so many stories! I’d like to learn more about your writing life. Do you write every day or in marathon bursts?

Laura: I try to get 500 words written every day. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes it’s less, but I also have five children, homeschool, am a pastor’s wife, and am busy, busy, busy, so I don’t have time to spend all day writing.

Nancy: You sure don’t! It’s amazing how much writing you’ve done! How do you get your story ideas?

Laura: God. This particular one I saw a photo on face book with an Amish man fighting a fire and I started researching and discovered that Amish do volunteer as firefighters and EMTs in their communities.

Nancy: I didn’t know that. That’s wonderful. Do you work from an outline, or craft it as you go?

Laura: I craft it as I go.  I don’t plot. I find it so impossible to plan out a story and then be able to write it.  When I was in elementary school, in fifth grade the teacher had us write an outline. She gave us a week to work on it.  I struggled, until the teacher commented that “next week, we’ll write a two or three page paper from the outline you wrote.”  I’m like “Oh!” So I went home that night, wrote the three page paper, then went back and wrote the outline.  I got 100% on the assignment(s), but I learned then, my brain doesn’t work in the typical outline first fashion.

Nancy: Well, that makes me chuckle! I’m awful at outlines, too, and also craft as I go. When did you first know you were a writer?

Laura: I have wanted to be a writer for as long as I could remember.  I kept it close to me for awhile, because I’d get the “that’s nice, dear.” And a pat on the head (which even is insulting to a child).  And when I did finally find the courage as a grown up, my brother in law looked at me and said “no one will ever publish it.”  Wow! That hurt.  I get great pleasure in sending my sister and brother-in-law a copy of each of my books. Is that wrong of me???

Nancy: I don’t think so. I’m sure you’re proud of your work, and maybe your actions will teach them to be more encouraging to family members. (I’m an optimist!) What do you want your readers to experience or learn from your stories?

Laura: I leave the application the reader gets from it up to God. He knows how He wants the reader to respond.

Nancy: What a great answer, Laura! Have you ever experienced writer’s block, or had a lot of difficulty with a story?

Laura: Oh yes!  Some of the stories were sooo hard to write. The one that’s releasing in February 2017 (The Amish Wanderer) was one of those. The whole book dealt with spiritual warfare (somewhat) and I was battled.  It seems there’s a part of every book where I’m having the character come to grips with a spiritual truth and I go through great trauma in real life then.

Nancy: Wow! That’s really interesting, and something I haven’t heard before. You’ve piqued my curiosity. Tell us about your latest book: The Amish Firefighter

Can they overcome their past?
Abigail Stutzman’s life is about to change – whether she wants it to or not. Her mamm is getting remarried to a widower with a large family. Abigail is sent to live with her aenti and onkle in Jamesport because she and her new step-brother had dated and their parents anticipate problems. (Her step-brother is needed on the farm.) Abigail launches a full-scale plan to return home to her family—and Mark—when she finds herself in over her head…and heart. When Abigail and her new “wrong crowd” get into significant trouble, her punishment includes helping a collection of crazy old maids with housekeeping. In the midst of her atonement, Abigail uncovers family secrets that run deep, and realizes she’s not the only one with a pain-filled past. Abigail must decide if she’ll continue her messed-up legacy or embrace a new beginning with the man who’s stolen her heart.
Samuel Miller has trouble of his own. When Sam and his close friend Ezra Weiss are in a drug/alcohol-related car accident in Pennsylvania, Ezra is killed. Though Sam survives, he is deeply affected by the tragedy and vows to help other victims. Now a new Christian, Sam is a volunteer firefighter and a college student working to earn his EMT and paramedic license. But Sam has a past. When it comes time to confess his crimes, he finds that the truth may set him free—but it might also land him in some uncomfortably hot water. Will Sam and Abigail be able to find a future together?

Nancy: Sounds really interesting, Laura! What do you like best about your main characters in this story?

Laura: They are so real!  Sammy is a bit rough around the edges, but he has a soft heart and will do anything to protect those he loves. He has to learn to face his mistakes to move past them.  Abigail was hurting from secrets that she never knew about but now flooded her world. I hurt for her.

Nancy: We authors do go through a range of emotions while working on our stories, don’t we?
Are you ever sad when finishing a story or a series, or do you feel relief and are glad to start your next novel?

Laura: Yes both of them.  I’m sad to leave characters that have become friends and am anxious to make new friends in the next book.

Nancy: What are you working on now?

Laura: I’m writing a book called The Christmas Challenge that I think might release in 2017 – maybe September, but I haven’t heard for sure on the release date of that yet.  It is due to the publisher Jan 2 – so I need to hurry!

Nancy: Well, I hope you enjoy the writing as much as your readers enjoy your stories! Thanks so much for the interview, Laura!

Here’s a little more about Laura, followed by her social and purchase links:

Nancy Shew Bolton Debuts with her First Novel!!!

I am so stinking excited! Nancy Bolton is one of the first of our group to see her words in print! Somebody scrape me off the ceiling, 'cause I can't hardly contain myself. I'm so honored to be the one to interview her! We here at the Diamond Mine are all so incredibly proud of Nancy, and delighted to be part of her journey to publish. We knew this story when it was yet a tiny babe.  And now it's blossomed into a full-blown novel. All right, enough gushing for one day. On to the fun.

Nancy, we're all so excited for you! How does it feel to actually get your work in print?

Words fail me. Pretty sad for a writer, isn’t it? I think I could express it better if I were a bird and could fly around singing, or if I were the horn section of an orchestra! As it is, I’ll say I’m amazed and thrilled. Very much so.

So let's delve into how this all began. What started you on this writing path, and how did you reach this point in your writing career?

Ever since I learned to write, I’d jot down thoughts, poems and lines of inspired sentences on various subjects that struck my interest. As a teen and an adult, I branched out into song lyrics, poetry and essays in college. Then around 2007, during a very hot, humid stretch of summer, I was emailing with a friend about the beauty and silence of a winter night in the country, and how welcome those temperatures and conditions would be right about then. I realized that for a brief time, it had felt as though I were really there. Though at the time, I was writing a non-fiction project, somehow, that short, intense experience gave me the incentive to attempt a fiction novel. And here I am!

Was there anyone who influenced you or inspired you?

As far as influence, my father kept urging me to write the story of how my husband and I moved out onto undeveloped land with five small boys. Kind of a modern-day pioneer story, as we had no electricity or running water out there. This was my first book, and I put it aside when I started with fiction. However, I’m now editing the final version of it and hope to see it published. As far as inspiration, I’d have to say the encouragement of family, and a life-long voracious habit of reading works by numerous incredible authors. Also, life inspires me, with all its challenges, struggles and delights.

How does your faith play a part in your novels and is there an underlying message?

For me, my faith is my heart, the foundation of my life and thoughts, so in my writing, I explore this internal relationship in the lives of my characters, and try to show how faith determines actions and reactions. I am endlessly fascinated by how a relationship with God transforms a person.
Where did the idea of this book start?

Well, my husband and I worked in a family-run doughnut shop for a few years, and I remember how the workload really took over our lives. When you’re that busy, your life mainly consists of work and sleep. That reality formed the catalyst for the dilemma of my main character, Ann. And it grew from there!
What can we expect next from Nancy Shew Bolton?
I have a novella set in the later dust-bowl years, which will come out next spring with Prism. I also have two other fiction novels I’m working on, as well as two others I’ve completed and submitted. Now I’m waiting to see if they are picked up for publication! I also have two creative non-fiction novels, and I’m knocking around with a children’s book, as well. I love writing, even when it drives me nuts! One of my prayers is that my husband will collaborate with me on one of these projects. He has a wonderful, quirky sense of humor that I think would fit really well in a children’s book. So maybe one of these days, you’ll see a book written by John and Nancy Bolton! It makes me smile to think of it!

Nancy, it makes us all smile to see this story come to fruition! All of us couldn't be more pleased than the proverbial punch. (Tropical, please, with fresh pineapple juice!)

And here is the cover reveal, and a little 'taste' of Nancy's confection, The Right Ingredients!
Catch it on Sept. 24th!

Missing the right ingredients for a life of joy, a young baker learns lessons in the true recipe for love.

Ann’s hectic work responsibilities demand all her time and effort, and what was once a useful, satisfactory life has become a burden. Her bakery partner Susan has lost none of her enthusiasm for their business, and Ann can’t understand her exuberance, or her friend’s Christian faith. So she trudges along, hiding her dissatisfaction from Susan, resigned to a life of work, sleep and problems.
Unexpected comments offered by two different people cause a crack in Ann’s armor and her thoughts careen into unexpected directions. Attention from a young widower with a son challenges Ann’s resolve to stay safe and uninvolved. Susan’s example of faith through trial furthers Ann’s curiosity about God. Ann must choose to step toward the unfamiliar freedom of giving and receiving love, or stay in the shadows, stuck in the grip of past hurt and long-standing barriers.
