Hello there, readers! I bring a special treat to the Mine today. Get ready? Drum roll anyone? I offer you none other than Christian Fiction and Children’s author, Daphne Self. You may know of her under former pen name D.M. Webb.She has such a beautiful spirit and I can’t wait to get started. So, let’s do this!

RENEE: Daphne, welcome to the Diamond Mine. I’m so
glad you could join us! Why don’t you tell the readers a little about yourself
before we get started with the interview?
RENEE: Iowa is a beautiful place to live. I always enjoyed
visiting when my aunt lived there. Wow, I didn’t realize that have published
across the genre field, from children to devotional and everything in between. What
would you say is the biggest challenge as an author?
DAPHNE: I have many challenges but as an author? I
would have to say it’s the actual sitting down to write. I’m a master of
distractions, but I know if I make myself sit down and concentrate, then I can
get a good hour to two hours of writing in which usually churns out 500 to 2500
words.
RENEE: “Master of distractions,” what an awesome term.
I may have to use that in the future if you don’t mind. We may need to get
together so you can instruct me on how you “make yourself concentrate.” I can’t
seem to “master” that one! In fact, I haven’t been able to write a lick for a
long time. Speaking of that, have you ever thought of what you would do if you
could write anymore?
DAPHNE: That’s a good question. If I couldn’t write
anymore, I would edit or find another way to work in the publishing industry. I
love books too much to be away from them.
RENEE: Me too. I can’t imagine not assisting others to
make their dream of becoming a published author or simply writing “The End”
come true. I’ve always found caring and helping people the best part of any job
I’ve ever had, voluntary or not. What do you like the most about your job? Is
there anything you don’t like?
DAPHNE: I have two jobs in publishing, one as editor,
the other as author. As an editor, I love helping other authors polish their
work and help strengthen their writing. Plus, I get to read the books before
anyone else. The downside: I am sometimes swamped with work (a good thing) but
that can cause an itsy bit amount of stress (not a good thing.)
As an author, I love this job. The only thing I
dislike is that I come up with too many ideas for books that I don’t have the
time to write. I have a journal with so many ideas and they just keep coming!
RENEE: In reality, that’s a good thing though, right?
It’s better to have too many ideas than not enough! And you can combine a few
ideas and make one awesome novel. LOL Have you ever read a novel or story and
though to yourself, “Man, I wish I’d thought of that one!” You know, that
favorite book you read in that favorite spot that stuck with you forever?
DAPHNE: I always laugh because I get this question a
lot and I don’t have an answer. I don’t have just one favorite book. I have
many. And the list keeps growing. When I feel like reading, but want some
familiar, like an old friend or warm blanket, I choose a book off my collection
shelf to read. I don’t have a particular – favorite - place to read either. I’m
happy wherever if it’s comfortable and I have a glass or cup of tea by my side.
RENEE: Simple things are the best, but if my front
window had a little with a padded seat and warm fleece blanket, that would become
my “favorite” spot! I could curl up with a book and feel the winter sun on my
face and watch the ice crystals melt slowly from the window panes to reveal a
snowy vista (my front yard with Christmas balls hanging from my pathetic baby
tree.) I love reading, can you tell? What’s some hobbies you like to do?
DAPHNE: I like to paint. I’m experimenting with
watercolor crayons at the moment. I plan to use them for the next book in my
children’s series. It’s been a while since I picked up a brush, but I have the
desire to do so now. I usually like to paint landscapes (a Bob Ross flair) or abstract
images. I do have one that I don’t like, but everyone who sees it says it’s
captivating. So, I keep it on my wall to remind me that it’s the emotion that
shows through the painting and not the technique.
RENEE: I love to paint too! I picked it up soon after my CRPS diagnosis
and I couldn’t write. I needed something to vent all the emotions pent up within
my soul. Landscapes are my favorite as well, but they take a long time for me
to do so I love to paint with the acrylic pour techniques. I know what you mean
though about emotion and putting it all out there. Sometimes, what you think is
raw and ugly, others find amazing and gorgeous. People are so different, aren’t
they? What makes one person tick, doesn’t phase another. I mean look at dogs
and cats for example. I know people who hate cats but love dogs and vice versa,
and then there are those who love both. Hey, do you like dogs or cats? Do you
have any pets?
DAPHNE: I have quite a few pets, but my newest edition
is Lord Yu. He comes from the line of Mustard. To tell this story I will have
to start with the life of Somebody, our mischievous and deeply loved orange
cat. Somebody was born to Sam, who was impregnated by the neighbor’s orange cat
we dubbed Mustard. Although Somebody died a couple of years later, when we went
down to visit my in-laws not too long ago, my mother-in-law’s cat had kittens.
I saw the orange cat and wanted it. When we picked him up three months later, I
realized how closely he resembled Somebody, stripes, patterns, color, and even
eye color. I realized that Mustard must have been quite busy, and this was one
of his descendants. We named him Lord Yu after a Stargate SG-1 character and
life has been interesting since then. Lord Yu lives up to his name. He’s
talkative, can be a bully, completely lovable sweetheart at times, afraid of
heights, and is slowly becoming addicted to the tub. We call Lord Yu “our
little feline human”.
RENEE: Oh, wow, Lord Yu! He sounds like a ham of the
feline variety. Don’t tell me you are a Stargate fan too?! Daphne, we are going
to have to meet someday. I’d love to keep going but we’d never stop if I don’t
watch it. How about we wrap up and save the rest of our questions for another
day?
DAPHNE: LOL Absolutely! That sounds like a good plan
to me. Please, do connect with me. I love to connect with my readers and fellow
authors. I can talk books, art, space, sci-fi, romance, pirates, and all kinds

I entered the giveaway lol. I am one of those weirdos who love both cats and dogs. Coming from a place where we have 3 dogs 2 indoor cats 2 rabbits a hamster and an outside cat that won't stay away lol. Also great interview!
